Inspiring things, touching things, encouraging things…

I know a few people for whom today, Valentine’s Day, is not an easy day. So for them and for everyone, here are some beautiful, inspiring, and non-romantic web finds.

1. Winning photo captures the hard work, the growth and the love:

The snapshot captures an average day for Keon, who holds Meredith, just like in the picture, eight hours a day, seven days a week because of her child’s life-limiting cerebral palsy.

“Her mouth was closed, which is a miracle,” Keon said. Her daughter’s mouth is usually open when she has one of the almost constant spasms that affect her body.

Meredith can’t walk, talk, eat orally or use her hands because of the condition which stems from a lack of oxygen at birth. Doctors originally said they did not expect Meredith to live until the age of eight. The family celebrated her eighth birthday two months ago on Dec. 5 and her life expectancy is now up to 15 years.

But the photo, shot by family friend Erin Egan, isn’t about showing pain or asking for pity. Rather, it speaks about hard work, personal growth and — above all else — love.

2. Convicted Man Returns to Thank Judge

“He told the story and everyone in the court was in tears. … The judge was in tears,” said Beech’s former defence lawyer, Gary Batasar, his own voice choking as he retold the story.

Witnesses said the judge turned red, weeping silently in his chair, holding his face in his hands.

“It was so emotional, so moving, it was so surreal,” Batasar said. He’d left the courtroom near the end, unable to keep it together. Even the three offenders in the prisoner’s box appeared to have tears in their eyes, he said.

The children are laughing loud, cheering, over just the right move on the gameboard and He keeps whispering it to my trembling heart, to me who knows and then forgets:

Those who fully live, who live ecstatic lives of joy, embrace moving out of comfort zones.

4. Land that Drinks In Rain at Teaching Tuck and Ty:

"Land that drinks in the rain..." soaking it into its soil, perhaps becoming a soggy, messy mud.

"...often falling on it..." in one rainstorm after another, days and days of rain.

"...that produces a crop..." of fruit underground that cannot be seen for perhaps many seasons to come.
